- Named after its location, at 2501 W. Main, to be exact, this restaurant/grill/bar/ has been a Fan favorite since 1987. Step inside for dinner and let the team of waitresses and hostesses give you quick and pleasant service. Sit down and notice the saloon appearance: from the brass railings to the mahogany-esque wood paneling and bar to the oversized mirrors hanging on the wall. Enjoy the hushed sounds of jazz and the low lighting while sitting in a secluded booth. And, the booths are the only secluded seats in this tight space, which is situated with as many tables as can possibly fit. If you do have to sit at a table, expect to be intimate with the next table if you need to stretch out after eating. Yes, its close but no one seems to mind.
Though the decor conjures up images of great old Midwestern saloons, the crowds show up here to dine. And grilled food is what they are here for. Nowhere else in the Fan can you find a restaurant that serves up entrees that strictly come off the flame of the grill, down to the crunchy grilled vegetable sides. Furthermore, the half-pound burger with the bun to fit brings swarms. Dinner is served until midnight everynight, which is another reason for Davis & Mains lengthy survival -- and the Fan sees new restaurant/bars come and go at an alarming rate.
Locals looking for privacy and to get away from Fan hangouts are a big part of the clientele. Richmonders making their way to a play or the symphony downtown like to stop here for dinner beforehand. Middle-aged couples regularly appear as well. But you dont need to be any of these to come in and enjoy a pleasant and memorable dining experience.

- I love to take out-of-towners here. The food and service are very reliable. I also love the ambiance!

- I've been going to eat at this very restaurants on dates and with my closest friends for years. Always dining late doesn't usually mean great food, but it does if you dine at Davis & Main.

- True to its name, this restaurant is at the corner of Davis and Main, making it easy to find for anyone who knows the streets of Richmond. Housed in a brick building that could have once been a family home, this hopping saloon-style jazz joint has a tin ceiling, whirring ceiling fans, an old-fashioned wooden bar, foot-tapping music and a casual menu befitting the relaxed interior. Look for pastas, grill specialties (such as chicken, pork tenderloin and Virginia farm-raised catfish), salads and a half-pound Black Angus burger. The management is a supporter of the local arts... -- Alexandra Greeley

- Ceiling fans, tiny tables and jazz warbles create a Fitzgerald-esque atmosphere perfect for post-theater dinners.

- Davis & Main has long been my favorite place in Richmond for good food and atmosphere. The service is always great and friendly. Everything is always brought hot off the grill and the soups and sauces are always interesting - never the dull same old same old.

- Don't let the deceptively simple menu fool you. The stuffed artichoke hearts are fried with Swedish fontina cheese; the spinach and sweet potato salad has pecans, portobellos and a roasted garlic dressing. A grilled duck breast dish came with a Granny Smith apple and cranberry puree. The nightly pasta, seafood and vegetarian specials would please even the pickiest eater.
